The windows in our house is already old so I’m thinking of buying some replacement windows. Upon researching I realized that I knew so little about replacement windows. I didn’t know there were so many manufacturers out there offering different window types and styles. I didn’t know there were aluminum windows, plastic windows, non-impact windows, impact resistant windows, and so much more.

Before you decide on a manufacturer, it is important that the right window you buy suits your needs and wants. Not all manufacturers make all types of windows so you have to choose the manufacturer that provides the window type of your choice.

I don’t live in a hurricane prone place but we do have typhoons. Some typhoons have very strong winds so it is imperative that the window frames I choose is made of aluminum. Aluminum frames are stronger and can withstand the effect of strong winds. If you have the budget then you can choose vinyl or plastic windows. It is also strong like the aluminum but because it is more energy efficient that aluminum then you have to expect to pay a premium price for it.

Determine ahead of time, what colors work best for your home. Decide whether you want just plain white or brown or tan window covering. Do you need a tint or heat-Low-E glass? These are all important considerations. You must also decide how you want to use the window and work. Do you want single-hung, double-hung, horizontal sliding windows, or maybe wings? Some of your decision will be filed on the basis of architectural, some of these prices, and some of it for operation. For example, in the choice I prefer impact resistant windows with a single horizontal slider simply because the it is easier to open an looks so much nicer.

It may sound like a lot of information and decisions, but you have a lot to consider before buying replacement windows.  Your job doesn’t end there though.  After all, a window is not complete without a curtain so don’t forget to add those roller shades to add beauty to your windows.
