Many recreational vehicle owners have the wrong notion that it is impossible for them to get insurance for their RVs. After all, there is confusion on whether to classify an RV as a type of automobile or as a home. Truth be told, however, you can get RV insurance, and this would largely depending upon the specific use of your vehicle.
If you are only using your RVs for travel, such as if you’re going to go camping in the woods or some other remote place, you must get the standard insurance for vehicles. Like car insurance, an rv insurance policy provides coverage for repairs and replacement to your vehicle in the event of accidents, damage or theft. For adequate coverage, do not get a cheap policy. Instead, go for a higher-than-minimum policy so that you can be assured that you will get enough funds to cover repairs or buying a new vehicle.
Individuals who use their RVs as their permanent home should get a home insurance policy instead. Aside from covering repairs and replacement of the vehicle in cases of damage, accidents or theft, this insurance policy also provides coverage for the contents of the RV, such as furniture, appliances or electronic gadgets.
RV insurance policies have different terms per state in the U.S. There are even some states that do not offer RV policies for those who use their vehicles as permanent homes. It is highly recommended that you first do research on RV insurance in the state you’re living in or make inquiries with insurance companies in your area.
